3.3 BUILDING YOUR OWN LIFE STORY BOOK
As Joy points out in the video below, many adopters and social workers find the process of compiling a life story book difficult - ‘Where do I start?’ ‘What format do I use?’ ‘What do I include?’. Joy gives some helpful suggestions to help answer these questions.
CREATING A LIFE STORY BOOK
We hope the video above has given you some helpful pointers and the inspiration to create your own Life Story Book.
TEMPLATES AND RESOURCES
To help you get started we’ve created a template in Word - All about Alice using one of Joy’s examples. It shows you one method of presenting a story but as Joy explained above there is no “right way” to do it. The download also includes a selection of specially commissioned adoption-related art work to help fit the book to your child’s story.
SHARE YOUR LIFE STORY BOOKS
The template above is only one style and there are lots of other ways you could do it we’d love to see them. Send in your anonymised versions of what you create - whatever format and we’ll post them here so that parents and social workers can learn. Email your creations (Word, Powerpoint, PDF, image files…) to us at firststeps@first4adoption.org.uk and we’ll share them here.
